Isaiah Frey has looked like everything but a true freshman cornerback getting his first taste of major college football.

Less than two weeks into preseason camp, the 6-foo, 190-pounder from Olivehurst, Calif., has performed on the same level as transfers from the junior college ranks. In the Wolf Pack's first scrimmage of the camp on Sunday, Frey picked off a pass and broke up two others as part of a dominating performance by the defense.

"That was just an outstanding performance, especially coming from a true freshman," head coach Chris Ault said. "And he's been doing the same thing in practice."

Frey, a product of Sacramento's Jesuit High School is one of nine newcomers to the defensive backfield this year and playing time is readily available on a team that does not have a cornerback on the roster with playing experience at the four-year level.

Frey's performance has not been that surprising to some.

"He's been doing well -- he's playing like Jesuit guy," said a smiling Nigel Burton, Nevada's first-year defensive coordinator, himself a Jesuit graduate. "I wouldn't expect anything less."
