RENO, Nev. University of Nevada women’s basketball coach Kim Gervasoni has decided to resign her position for personal reasons, she announced Thursday afternoon.
Gervasoni improved her wins total every season in her five years as the head coach of the Wolf Pack program. Her 2007-08 team recorded 18 wins, the best season under Gervasoni and the most victories for the team since 1999-2000. The second coach in school history to record at least 50 career wins at Nevada, she led the Wolf Pack to the first postseason bid in school history with a WNIT appearance in 2007.
During her five years at Nevada, Gervasoni coached five players to nine Western Athletic Conference postseason honors, including 2007-08 WAC Defensive Player of the Year Dellena Criner and 2005-06 WAC Freshman of the Year Brandi Fitzgerald. She also coached 21 Academic All-WAC selections.
“I would like to thank Cary Groth, Cindy Fox and Chris Ault for giving me this opportunity to be the head women’s basketball coach at the University of Nevada for the past five years,” Gervasoni said. “I appreciate the support from the administration, support staff, my coaching staff, the players, my friends, family and the community. I’m grateful for my experience here and I am excited about my future.”
“We’re going to miss Kim. We understand how tough this decision was for her and we support her,” Nevada Director of Athletics Cary Groth said. “Kim has done a tremendous job with the Wolf Pack women’s basketball program in her five years at Nevada. They made great strides on the court, and her student-athletes excelled in the classroom and the community. I want to thank Kim for everything she has done for the University of Nevada and wish her the best in the future.”
A national search for Nevada’s next women’s basketball coach will begin immediately.
