RENO, Nev. The University of Nevada women’s basketball signees for next season, Amanda Johnson, Brittany Woodard and Kayla Williams, garnered a number of post season honors as their prep careers came to an end this spring.

 

Johnson, a 5-6 guard from El Camino High School in Oceanside, Calif., averaged 16.7 points per game, 3.6 assists per game, 3.5 steals per game and 3.4 rebounds per game as a senior.  She is a four-time First Team All-Avocado league honoree and ended her high school career as El Camino High School’s all-time leader in assists (508) and three-pointers made (126).  She was also presented with a certificate to the McDonald’s All-America Team.  She ended her prep career with 1382 points, 508 assists, 229 steals and 126 three-point field goals made.    

 

Woodard, a 6-0 forward from Christian Brothers High School in Sacramento, Calif., was named the Sacramento Bee’s 2007-08 Player of the Year.  As a senior, she averaged 18.1 points per game, 8.1 rebounds per game, 2.6 steals per game and 2.0 assists per game.  She helped lead her high school team to a 27-5 record and the San-Joaquin Section Division IV Championship.  Woodard, who was also named to the All-Metro girls volleyball first team last fall, averaged 22.3 point per game and 9.1 rebounds per game in her final three playoff games.

 

Williams, a 6-0 forward who attended Reed High School in Sparks, Nev., was named the Reno Gazette-Journal’s Northern 4A Player of the Year.  She helped lead Reed to three consecutive state tournament appearances and helped the Raiders win a Northern 4A Regional Championship in 2007 the school’s first since 1997.  This season, she posted a double-double (12 points and 12 rebounds) in Reed’s loss to Bishop Gorman in the Class 4A State Semifinals. 

 

“We are extremely pleased to sign three quality people in the 2008 class.  Amanda, Brittany and Kayla are tremendous additions to our program,” fifth-year head coach Kim Gervasoni said on signing day.  “I appreciate all of the hard work my coaching staff puts into recruiting.  All of us have developed a terrific relationship to each of these recruits, their coaches and their families.  We feel 100% confident that this class will continue to elevate our program to a championship level.”
