GAINESVILLE, Fla.   Led by junior Melanie De Leon, the University of Nevada women’s golf team is tied for 10th place after the second round of the Gainesville Shootout, being held Thursday-Saturday, March 13-15 at the par 70, 5,907-yard Mark Bostick Golf Course at the University of Florida.

As a team, the Wolf Pack shot a 43-over 323 in Friday’s second round and dropped two spots into a tie for 10th with Southern Mississippi with a two-round total of 77-over 637 (314-323). Michigan leads the 15-team Gainesville Shootout with a two-round total of 51-over 611 (309-302). The Wolverines hold a three-stroke advantage over Texas State (614), while Illinois (615), Illinois State (617) and Wofford (622) round out the top five teams.   

For the Wolf Pack, De Leon is tied for 20th with a two-round total of 15-over 155 (76-79), while senior Jennie Pleas turned in Nevada’s best round of the day with a six-over 76 on Friday and is tied for 29th at 17-over 157 (81-76). Sophomore Pamela Abreu stands in a tie for 42nd at 20-over 160 (76-84), while fellow senior Heather Olmstead is tied for 53rd at 25-over 165 (81-84). True freshman Lauren Hernandez stands in a tie for 72nd at 34-over 174 (88-86).

Wofford’s Alex Rankin shot a two-over 68 Friday to move into first in the the event with a two-round total of even-par 140 (72-68). She holds a five-stroke lead over Illinois’ Raquel Hopton (75-70=145).   

The Gainesville Shootout concludes on Saturday with the final round beginning with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. Eastern Time (5:45 a.m. Pacific). A recap and final results will be available at www.nevadawolfpack.com.
