RENO, Nev. The University of Nevada soccer team had three players earn All-WAC honors, as voted on by the conference coaches, the WAC announced Wednesday night.
Sophomore Cristen Drummond was named to the All-WAC first team while seniors Miranda Montejo and Patrice Godwin were each named to the All-WAC second team.
Drummond, a midfielder from Los Angeles, Calif., was named to the All-WAC first team after recording three goals during the Pack’s seven conference games. She took 19 shots during conference play including eight on goal. This is the first career All-WAC honor for Drummond.
Montejo, a midfielder from Riverside, Calif., earned All-WAC honors for the third time in her career. This year she took 10 shots in conference play and is second all-time at Nevada in career points (44) and is tied for second all-time in goals (17). Montejo was named to the second team as a freshman in 2005 and to the second team as a sophomore in 2006.
Godwin, a defender from Reseda, Calif., earned All-WAC honors for the second time in her career. This season, Godwin started and played in all 18 games for Nevada. She scored her first collegiate goal this season, the game-winning goal against Hawai`i. Godwin was also named to the All-WAC second team as a junior in 2007.
Nevada, who is the #6 seed in this year’s tournament, will open WAC tournament play tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. versus #3 Hawai`i at Mackay Stadium. The winner of the Nevada/Hawai`i game will face #2 Fresno State on Friday at 5:30 p.m. in the semifinals. The championship game is Sunday at 1 p.m. with the winner earning the WAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
