Honolulu, Hawai`i - The University of Nevada (11-11, 6-6 WAC) volleyball team was swept by the eighth ranked University of Hawai`i (18-3, 11-1 WAC) Rainbow Wahine in a Western Athletic Conference match played at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu, Hawaii tonight. The Wolf Pack was defeated 25-12, 25-23 and 25-16 by the Rainbow Wahine. With the loss the Pack fell to 11-11 on the season and 6-6 in WAC play. UH improved to 18-3 on the year and moved into a tie with New Mexico State atop the league standings at 11-1.
In the first set UH jumped to a 19-9 lead on the way to the 25-12 victory to take a 1-0 lead in the match. The Rainbow Wahine hit an outstanding .645 in set one and held the Pack to a match low .115 attack percentage.
Set two was the closest of the match with seven ties and four lead changes before Hawai`i won 25-23. The Pack led 14-10 but UH rallied to tie the set at 18-18 and outscored Nevada 7-5 from there to take the set and 2-0 lead in the match. UH's attack percentage slipped to .125 while the Pack hit .121 in the second set.
Hawai`i led set three early 7-1 and cruised to the 25-16 victory to take the match 3-0. UH hit .325 in the final set and Nevada posted a .114 attack percentage.
Nevada was led by Lindsay Baldwin and Allison Hernandez who totaled eight and seven kills respectively. Junior setter Sonnie Sei dished out 18 assists while libero Nicole Link totaled seven digs.
Jamie Houston topped UH with a match-high 19 kills while Aneli Cubi-Otineru recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs. Setter Dani Mafua posted a match-high 43 assists in the match.
Hawai`i hit .359 in the match compared to .117 for the Wolf Pack. Nevada won the blocking battle 7-4. Baldwin led Nevada with a match-high four blocks and Amber Kaufman had three for UH.
The Pack returns home to host New Mexico State on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in the final home match of the season.
