2008 NOTES

NEVADA AT NO. 8 HAWAI`I FRIDAY
After playing four matches in a row at home the University of Nevada (11-10, 6-5 WAC) volleyball team returns to the road this week for a single Western Athletic Conference match at eighth ranked and conference leading Hawai`i(17-3, 10-1) Friday night at 7:00 p.m.  The Rainbow Wahine defeated the Pack 3-0 back on Oct. 18 in Reno.  Nevada will be looking for its first WAC win versus UH as the Rainbow Wahine have won all 17 conference matchups with the Wolf Pack.

NEVADA TIED FOR FOURTH: After posting a pair of Western Athletic Conference home wins last week the Wolf Pack’s 6-5 record has the team tied with Utah State for fourth place in the conference standings with five matches remaining on the schedule.  Eighth ranked Hawai`i at 10-1 is atop the standings but just one half game in front of New Mexico State’s 9-1 mark.
Idaho sits alone in third place with a 7-3 record after 10 matches.  San Jose State is sixth at 4-6 followed by Boise State (3-8), Fresno State (2-8) and Louisiana Tech (0-10).

BALDWIN NAMED WAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK:  Nevada middle blocker Lindsay Baldwin has been named Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for Oct. 20-26. This is the first WAC Player of the Week honor for Baldwin.
Baldwin led the Wolf Pack to two consecutive home victories, averaging 5.06 points, 4.38 kills on .474 hitting, 1.00 digs and 0.88 blocks per set. In a 3-1 win over Louisiana Tech, she posted a match-high 15 kills on .385 hitting to go along with three blocks. She followed that with another match-high 20 kills on .548 hitting and four blocks. Nevada has won six of its last seven matches and sits in a tie for fourth place in the WAC standings.

SCRUGGS RECORDS 200TH VICTORY AT NEVADA:  The Wolf Pack’s 3-1 victory over Utah State last Saturday was the 200th for Head Coach Devin Scruggs in her career and at Nevada.  Scruggs in her 12th season has posted a career mark of 200-143.  During her tenure the Pack has made five NCAA Tournament appearances in 1998, 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2005.  The 1998 and 2002 teams won a school record 22 matches.  Since her arrival at Nevada 29 players have earned all-conference honors, 10 first team and 19 second team.  Michelle More in 2002 and Salaia Salave`a in 2005 garnered AVCA All-West Region honors.  Salave`a was an honorable mention All-America selection in 2005.

HERNANDEZ NEARING 1000:  The Pack’s lone senior, outside hitter/libero Allison Hernandez has 994 career digs leaving her six short of becoming the eighth player in school history to reach 1000 for her career.  Currently she ranks eighth all-time at Nevada and is 72 behind Lindsay Holda (2002-05) for seventh.

PACK WINNERS OF SIX OF SEVEN:  After dropping five matches in a row Nevada rebounded to win its next four only to have that streak snapped in a 3-0 setback to then ninth ranked Hawai`i.  The Wolf Pack followed the UH loss by winning the next to matches but the Rainbow Wahine are next on the schedule.  In total Nevada has won six of its last seven matches.  In the six wins the Pack won 18-of-22 sets.

LINK POSTS TOP WAC DIGS MARK THIS SEASON:  Sophomore libero Nicole Link recorded 29 digs in the Pack’s 3-1 victory at Fresno State, Oct. 11 which is tied for top number by a player in the WAC this season with Christine Morrill of Utah State.  The 29 digs is also Link’s career high and the fourth best total by a Nevada player in school history.

HARRINGTON LEADS TEAM WITH SEVEN DOUBLE-DOUBLES:  Sophomore outside hitter Kylie Harrington leads the Pack with seven double-doubles on the season which is tied for the third most in the WAC this season.  Harrington recorded her seventh with 10 kills and 10 digs in Nevada’s 3-1 victory over the Fresno State on Oct. 16.  Senior outside hitter/libero Allison Hernandez is two off the pace with five.
As a team Nevada has posted 20 double-doubles on the season.  Setter Sonnie Sei ranks third on the squad behind Harrington and Hernandez with four.  Reserve setter Tatiana Santiago has two while middle blocker Lindsay Baldwin and outside hitter/libero Nicole Link have one each.
