RENO, Nev. The University of Nevada’s men’s golf team will wrap up its fall season next week, traveling to Las Cruces, N.M., for the 2008 Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate. New Mexico State will host the 18-team tournament on Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 27-28 at the par 72, 7,074-yard NMSU Golf Course.
ABOUT THE HERB WIMBERLY INTERCOLLEGIATE: Teams will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday's final round. Each day will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Mountain Time (7 a.m. Pacific Time).
The 18 teams competing in the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate include Air Force, Utah, Miami-Ohio, Iowa State, Kansas State, UTEP, Nevada, New Mexico State, Denver, Nebraska, Ball State, Northern Colorado, Akron, Washington State, Cal Poly, Idaho, Weber State and Colorado.

NEVADA'S LINEUP: Nevada's lineup for the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate includes juniors Taylor Coffman (San Diego, Calif.), Jared Becher (Reno, Nev.) and Ryan Hallisey (Granite Bay, Calif.), sophomore Scott Smith (Fallon, Nev.) and senior Matt Rippy (Boise, Idaho).
LAST TIME OUT: Junior Taylor Coffman won the first tournament of his career leading Nevada to a tie for fifth at the Louisiana Tech Squire Creek Classic, held Oct. 13-14 at the par 72, 7,014-yard Squire Creek Country Club.
Nevada shot an even-par 288 in the final round to finish in a tie for fifth with Louisiana-Lafayette at a two-under 862 (295-279-288). Coffman carded a career-best, six-under 66 in the final round to take the top spot in the 88-player field with a three-round total of nine-under 207 (73-68-66). Junior Jared Becher shot his second consecutive round of one-under 71 on the final day to tie for 30th at three-over 219 (77-71-71). Junior Ryan Hallisey finished tied for 39th at five-over 221 (74-67-80), sophomore Scott Smith finished one stroke behind to tie for 47th at six-over 222 (71-73-78). Junior Greg Wenzel rounded out the Wolf Pack lineup tied for 82nd shooting 231 (81-77-73).
UP NEXT: The Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate ends the fall season for the Wolf Pack men. Nevada will return to action Feb. 2-3, traveling to the Arizona Invitational. The University of Arizona will play host to that tournament at the Arizona National Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz.
