LOGAN, Utah The University of Nevada soccer team came back to tie three times during the match against Utah State game but the Utah State Aggies scored the game-winner in the 82nd minute to post the 4-3 win.

 

With the win, Utah State improved to 8-7-1 overall and 3-0 in the WAC while Nevada fell to 1-11-2 overall and 1-2 in the WAC.

 

Utah State took a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute as Marissa Sanchez scored from four yards out on a header.  Nevada tied the game in the 35th minute on Karen Zmirak’s deep shot from 20-yards out. 

 

The Aggies went back on top in the 41st minute at Shantel Flanary scored from eight yards out.  The Pack again tied the game in the 45th minute on Ellie Stott’s first career goal as she scored off Zmirak’s corner kick. 

 

With her three points in the game, Zmirak claimed sole possession of first on Nevada’s all-time point list (45) passing teammate Miranda Montejo (44).  With her goal, Zmirak is now tied with Montejo for second all-time in career goals with 17 Kaula Rowe (2000-03) is Nevada’s all-time leader in goals with 18. 

 

Utah State went ahead 3-2 just after halftime in the 49th minute but the Pack battled back and tied the game at 3-3 in the 60th minute as Cristen Drummond beat her defender and scored from six yards out. 

 

Utah State retook the lead, 4-3, and scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 82nd minute as Sydne Porter scored on a free kick. 

 

Nevada ended the game with 14 shots (six on goal) while Utah State finished the game with 10 (five on goal).  Miranda Montejo took a game-high five shots for Nevada. 

 

Marie Cove made one save in goal for the Pack while Ali Griffin made three for the Aggies.

 

Nevada will play at La Tech on Sunday at 10 a.m. PT.
