Reno, Nev. - The University of Nevada men’s and women’s tennis teams will head to the Bay Area this weekend for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Regional Championships.
The women’s tennis team will be competing at Stanford, Calif. All the women’s tennis players are expected to compete in the championships. Senior and No. 91 Caroline Bailly has been seeded No. 15 and will take on Portland's Stephanie Fuchs on Friday.
Also on Friday, sophomore Caroline Stevens will take on Eastern Washington's Caitlin Bampton and freshman Aodhnait Lombard will face San Francisco's Jessy Mekpoh. Sophomores Lais Ogata and Florence De Vrye will take on Washington's Joyce Ardies and Aleksandra Krsljanin, respectively. Freshman Shannon Cassidy will face Washington State's Aleksandra Cekic.
In doubles action, Bailly and Ogata will team up and take on Sacramento State's Luba Schifris and Aileen Tsan. Stevens and De Vrye will take on Gonzaga's Radhika Mehndiratta and Danielle Farmer. Cassidy and Huba will take on Portland's Tessa Trunnel and Jenna Tanzer.
“Our team has been improving week after week,” Nevada head women’s tennis coach Sylvain Malroux said. “We already played two great tournaments and they faced a lot of good teams. This is just another opportunity for them to battle against some of the best competition in the country.
“We are moving forward and it is exciting to see our team embracing the challenge ahead of them. This tournament will make them better and we are confident that they are ready for it.”
