CHOUDRANT, La. Juniors Taylor Coffman and Ryan Hallisey both turned in rounds in the 60s on Monday to lead the University of Nevada's men's golf team into a tie for fourth after the first day of play at the Louisiana Tech Squire Creek Classic, being held Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 13-14 at the par 72, 7,105-yard Squire Creek Country Club.
Led by Coffman and Hallisey, the Wolf Pack carded a seven-over 295 in the first round and a season-low, nine-under 279 in the second, both on Monday, and is tied for fourth with Louisiana-Lafayette at two-under 574. Nevada stands seven strokes off the lead of LSU (286-281) and New Orleans (292-275), which both carded nine-under 567s on Monday. Louisville is tied for third at four-under 572, while Nevada and Louisiana-Lafayette round out the top five teams.
For the Wolf Pack, Coffman and Hallisey are both tied for ninth at three-under 141. Coffman had a one-over 73 in the first round and a season-low, four-under 68 in the second, while Hallisey followed up a first-round 74 by matching his career low with a five-under 67 in the second. Sophomore Scott Smith is tied for 24th at even-par 144 (71-73), while junior Jared Becher stands in a tie for 47th at four-over 148 (77-71). Junior Greg Wenzel is tied for 85th to round out the Wolf Pack lineup (81-77=158).
LSU’s Jarrod Barsamian leads the individual field at seven-under 137 (68-69) and holds a two-stroke advantage over five players tied for second at five-under 139.
