RENO, Nev. The University of Nevada soccer team will host Chico State and CS Stanislaus on Friday and Sunday, respectively, in a pair of exhibition matches at Mackay Stadium.  Admission to both games is free.   

 

The Pack will take on the Chico State Wildcats on Friday, Aug. 17 at 6 p.m. and will face the CS Stanislaus Warriors on Sunday, Aug. 19 at 5:30 p.m. 

 

Due to the construction of the Marguerite Wattis Petersen Foundation Athletic Academic Center in front of Legacy Hall, parking for those attending Nevada’s games this season will be available in the West Stadium parking garage located on the West side of Mackay Stadium.  Access to the garage is off of Virginia Street and fans can park on any level of the garage.  In addition, until further notice, entrance into Mackay Stadium will be through Gate 2 which can be accessed by exiting the Southwest corner of the West Stadium parking garage on level three.       

 

Nevada, picked to finish first in the WAC this season by the league’s coaches, returns 10 members from its 2006 WAC Tournament championship team and NCAA Tournament team.  The Pack returns forward Karen Zmirak, its leading goal scorer from a year ago, forward Samantha Miller and defender Jessica Wilcox.  Both Miller and Wilcox were named to the 2007 Preseason All-WAC team, while Wilcox garnered WAC Preseason Co-Defender of the Year Honors. 

 

The Pack welcomes a talented and athletic freshman class and for the third consecutive season under fourth-year head coach Terri Patraw, Nevada’s incoming class has been ranked number one in the WAC by Soccer Buzz. 

 

Nevada will open the regular season at home on Friday, Aug. 31 versus Pac-10 opponent Oregon at 7 p.m.  The Pack will then host Portland State on Sunday, Sept. 2 at 2 p.m.  For tickets call 775-784-PACK (7225) or click here for more information.
