RENO, Nev. Midfielder Aivi Luik, who played soccer for Nevada from 2005-06, was named to the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) Team of the Week, the WPSL announced today. 

 

Luik helped her team, FC Indiana, remain undefeated on the young season with a 2-0 win over 2006 WPSL finalist River Cities FC Thursday night at Kuntz Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.  Luik, who has started both of FC Indiana’s games this season, was taken down in the box in the 87th minute during the team’s match with River Cities FC, giving FC Indiana a penalty kick.  Teammate Fatima Leyva converted the PK, giving FC Indiana the 2-0 win.  She also recorded an assist in FC Indiana’s 4-1 win over FCTwente3 in Chicago on Monday.     

 

Luik, who played for Nevada in 2005 and 2006 after transferring from Brescia University in Kentucky, played in 42 career games for Nevada.  A team captain in 2006, she recorded 25 career points on nine goals and seven assists.  She was named to the All-WAC second team in 2005 and was named team MVP in 2006 after leading her team to its first WAC Tournament title and its first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history. 

 

Luik, a native of Gold Coast, Australia, also played for FC Indiana in 2005, leading the team to a Women’s Premier Soccer League Championship against the Sacramento Storm after scoring the game-winning goal on a penalty kick.
