DALLAS, Texas Nevada junior Dominic Green has been named to the spring watch list for the Dave Rimington Trophy, which is annually presented to the most outstanding center in college football.

The spring watch list consists of 46 of college football's top centers, making it the largest watch list in the history of the award. The list will be updated once prior to the beginning of the season and features 23 seniors, 18 juniors and five sophomores.

“With only one returning finalist (Jonathan Luigs, Arkansas) from last season, the competition will be wide open which will certainly make for an exciting race. Center is a very difficult position to evaluate and of course play, so I wish all of the candidates and their respective teams a successful season,” Dave Rimington said.

A 6-3, 295-pound offensive lineman out of Jesuit High School in Sacramento, Calif., Green has started every game in his career at Nevada. He earned second-team All-Western Athletic Conference honors after starting all 13 games at tackle last season. He also started all 12 contests as a true freshman in 2005, including eight at center and four at guard. In 2007, Green will return to the center position.

“Dom is a very versatile offensive lineman. He has played every position on the offensive line for us, which is unique,” Nevada offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Chris Klenakis said. “He is extremely hard-working and is a very intelligent player and a good technician. He has a great sense and awareness of the game. Dominic is a very deserving candidate for the prestigious Rimington Trophy.”

This season marks the eighth year of the Rimington Trophy. The winner is selected by determining the consensus All-American center pick from four existing All-America teams, including the American Football Coaches Association, the Walter Camp Foundation, the Sporting News and the Football Writers Association of America.

The Rimington Trophy is presented by Canon, Cornhusker Marriott, and Logitech. The award is hosted by the Boomer Esiason Foundation. Esiason created his foundation in 1993 to support cystic fibrosis research and treatment. Esiason and Rimington, the award’s namesake, were teammates on the Cincinnati Bengals from 1984-87. Rimington was a consensus first-team All-America center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982. He became the John Outland Trophy’s only double winner as the nation’s premier college interior lineman.

West Virginia’s Dan Mozes, Minnesota’s Greg Eslinger, Michigan’s David Baas (2004 co-winner), LSU’s Ben Wilkerson (2004 co-winner), Virginia Tech’s Jake Grove, Miami’s Brett Romberg, Ohio State’s LeCharles Bentley, and Nebraska’s Dominic Raiola are past recipients of the Rimington Trophy.

The winner will be honored at the awards banquet at the Rococo Theater in Lincoln, Neb., in January of 2008.
