LAS CRUCES, N.M. Led by junior Heather Olmstead, the University of Nevada women’s golf team ended its regular season with a fourth-place finish at the 2007 Western Athletic Conference Championships, held Monday-Wednesday, April 23-25 at the par 72, 6,319-yard New Mexico State University Course in Las Cruces. The Wolf Pack carded a 21-over 309 in Wednesday’s final round to finish in fourth place with a three-round total of 51-over 915 (306-300-309). Idaho won the WAC team championship, turning in a three-stroke victory over San Jose State (909) with a final total of 42-over 906 (309-293-304). Hawai’i finished in third (911), followed by Nevada (915), Fresno State (919), tournament host New Mexico State (933) and Boise State (935). Idaho earned the WAC’s automatic bid to one of the three NCAA Regionals. Selections for the regionals will be announced on Monday, April 30.
Olmstead was Nevada’s top finisher, tying for fifth place at 11-over 227 (75-73-79). Senior Kelly Burke finished in a tie for 12th with a three-round total of 14-over 230 (73-75-82), while sophomore Melanie De Leon ended up 18th at 16-over 226 (80-76-76). Junior Jennie Pleas tied for 24th at 20-over 236 (82-76-78), while senior Nicole de Gennaro finished in a tie for 31st at 23-over 239 (78-85-76). De Leon also earned second-team All-WAC honors for the second consecutive season, it was announced at the awards ceremony following the tournament.
San Jose State’s Erica Moston won the WAC individual title with a three-round total of one-over 217 (74-73-70).
