RIVERSIDE, Calif. Shavon Moore scored a career-high 15 points and added 10 rebounds as she recorded her first career double-double to lead the University of Nevada women’s basketball team to a 62-52 victory at UC Riverside Sunday afternoon. 

 

Dellena Criner added 14 points while Mikail Price scored 11 as Nevada improves to 6-3 overall while UC Riverside falls to 2-6. 

 

Nevada opened the game on a 7-0 run on field goals from Criner, Marianne Lombardi and a three pointer from Brandi Fitzgerald.  The Pack held UC Riverside without a field goal until Seryam Gbewonyo knocked down a three pointer with 16:40 remaining in the first half. 

 

Moore scored on back-to-back possessions for Nevada to put the Pack up seven, 15-8, with 13:57 remaining in the first half.  The Highlanders pulled to within one with 9:23 left in the first half on a three-point shot by Amber Cox and took a one-point lead with 8:05 remaining in the half. 

 

Criner helped Nevada regain the lead, 22-21, with a pair of free throws with just over eight minutes remaining in the first half.  Jennifer Gross’ layup gave Nevada a four point lead before Kemie Nkele completed a three-point play on the next possession to pull the Highlanders to within one, 28-27.

 

Nevada, who led 35-31 at the half, shot 52 percent (13-25) from the floor in the first half while UC Riverside shot 50 percent (12-24).  Price led Nevada in the first half, scoring nine points while Moore added eight. 

 

Moore put Nevada up by five, 44-39, with 11:30 left in the game after a steal and jumper.  The Pack extended its lead to 47-40 on a Price jumper and Nevada went up by nine, 49-40, on a putback from Nicole Williams. 

 

Nevada went up by eight, 51-43, on a pair of free throws from Moore and went up by 10, 55-45 with 3:25 left in the game. 

 

UC Riverside never got closer than seven points over the remaining three minutes of the game as Nevada posted a 62-52 victory. 

 

Nevada ended the game shooting 47.7 percent (21-46) while UC Riverside ended the game shooting 37.0 percent (20-54). 

 

Nevada head coach Kim Gervasoni, who picked up her 47th career victory in Nevada’s win at UC Riverside, is now three wins away from winning her 50th career game with Nevada.  Gervasoni is the second winningest coach in Nevada history and would become just the second coach in history to record at least 50 career wins with the Pack.

 

Nevada will host CS Fullerton on Sunday, Dec. 16 at 2 p.m.
