RENO, Nev.  Utah State scored the game-winner in the sixth minute and added an insurance goal in the 85th, as the Aggies beat the University of Nevada soccer team 2-0 Friday night at Mackay Stadium.

Nevada (4-8-1, 0-3 WAC) outshot Utah State 7-5 in the match, but the Aggies held a 4-1 advantage in shots on goal.

Utah State’s (6-9, 2-1 WAC) Lauren Hansen scored the Aggies’ first goal of the match in the 6th minute.  On the goal, Candice Clark played Hansen through Nevada’s defense.  Nevada keeper Marie Cove came out but Hansen was able to beat Cove to give the Aggies an early 1-0 lead.

In the 24th minute, Miranda Montejo had a good look for the Pack, with her shot just missing the back post.  Cristen Drummond played the ball to Montejo who was making a bending run to the outside.  Utah State’s keeper had the near post covered, so Montejo hit her shot far post, but her attempt went wide.

Nevada’s Kenishia Warren saw her volley in the 33rd minute go high.  On the play, Samantha Miller got played in down the left side, cut in, beat her defender and found Montejo.  Montejo took the ball endline and dropped it back to Warren, who was just outside the six-yard box, but Warren’s volley was off target.

Nevada’s best look of the second half came from a free kick from 40 yards out in the 82nd minute.  Vanessa Mann took the free kick for Nevada, sending the ball into the box.  Erin Smith, who was making a bending run from the back post across the face of the goal, collided with the Aggies’ goalie who was able to make the save.

The Aggies added an insurance goal in the 85th minute as Candice Clark scored off an assist from Alysa Adams after a Utah State corner kick.

Cove made two saves for Nevada while Utah State keeper Ali Griffin made one.  Miller took a team-high three shots for the Pack.

Nevada will look to pickup its first conference win of the season on Sunday when the Pack hosts La Tech at Mackay Stadium at 1 p.m.
