RENO, Nev. - Nevada used a strong defense in causing 24 New Mexico State turnovers and shot .462 from the field to upend the Aggies here Saturday afternoon, 61-51.
Nevada (8-13, 4-5 WAC) was paced by Jessica Preslar and Brandi Fitzgerald with 16 points each. Meghan McGuire added 11 points off the bench for the Pack.
The Pack led 25-20 at the half and built a 14-point lead, 51-37, at the 5:16 mark. Nevada was perfect from the free throw line, 12-12. New Mexico State won the rebound battle, 32-29.
The game was tied at 12 at the 5:41 mark, and there were two lead changes in the game, with New Mexico State taking their lone advantage, 12-10, at the 10:59 mark.
The largest crowd of the year, 735, was on hand, many of them youths in grade eight or younger, who came to Lawlor Events Center early for a free all sports clinic and lunch prior to the game as part of National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
Leading New Mexico State (7-13, 4-5 WAC) was Jenean Ford with 15 points and nine rebounds.
Nevada heads to Louisiana Tech Thursday night and then takes on New Mexico State in Las Cruces, N.M., Saturday night.
