RENO, Nev. - At least three nationally-televised games will be part of the University of Nevada's 2006 football schedule, including two Friday night games and one late Saturday morning contest, the school announced today.
Times for television appearances are tentative at this time, however, the two Friday night telecasts will be early evening games and the Boise State contest will likely be a late morning start. The Wolf Pack Sports Network television games will be announced at a later date.
The 2006 home schedule includes: Colorado State, Saturday, Sept. 16 at 6:00 p.m.; Northwestern, Friday, Sept. 22, tba (ESPN2); San Jose State, Saturday, Oct. 21 vs., 1:00 p.m.; New Mexico State, Saturday, Oct. 28, 1:00 p.m.; Utah State, Saturday, Nov. 11, 1:00 p.m.; and Boise State, Saturday, Nov. 25, tba (ESPN or ESPN2).
Road games in 2006 are: Fresno State, Friday, Sept. 1, 7:00 p.m. (ESPN2); Arizona State, Saturday, Sept. 9, 7:00 p.m. MT; UNLV, Saturday, Sept. 30 , tba; Hawai`i, Saturday, Oct. 7, 6:05 p.m. HT; Idaho, Saturday, Nov. 4, 2:00 p.m. PT; and Louisiana Tech, Saturday, Nov. 18, 6:00 p.m. CT.
"We'll play schools from four different conferences this year, including the WAC. What a great challenge," Head Coach Chris Ault said.
Nevada will open with two road games and for the second time in three years, begin the season with a conference opponent (Nevada opened the 2004 campaign on Labor Day at Louisiana Tech in an ESPN telecast). Then the Pack will host two opponents, hit the road for two more road games before having an open week. Nevada will play back-to-back games at Mackay Stadium and finish the schedule by alternating road and home games.
"We've put ourselves in a position with our upgraded scheduling and a much-improved program to become attractive to national television," Athletics Director Cary Groth said. "With three ESPN games guaranteed in the Fresno State, Northwestern, and Boise State games, plus our television package, we'll be able to further showcase our University and our football program."
Season tickets will go on sale following the opening of spring football, which runs March 27 through April 22. The annual Blue and Silver Scrimmage will take place Saturday, Apr. 22, with the time tba.
