Honolulu, Hawaii In a battle for the top spot in the Western Athletic Conference standings the 15th ranked University of Hawai`i(11-4, 5-0 WAC) volleyball team continued its winning ways in conference play defeating the University of Nevada(10-7, 4-1) by scores of 30-23, 30-20, and 30-25 at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu on Sunday. The win was the 112th consecutive WAC victory for the Rainbow Wahine as they improved to 11-4 on the season and 5-0 in conference play. The Wolf Pack lost for the first time in WAC action leaving them 4-1 and 10-7 overall.
Game one was tied at 11-11 before UH put together a 6-2 run to go on top 17-13 on the way to the 30-23 victory. The Pack hit well at .368 but the Rainbow Wahine was even better at .417.
In game two UH used a 6-1 run to break a 9-9 tie and take control of the game going on top 15-11 in winning 30-20. With the victory the hosts led the match two games to none at the break. The Rainbow Wahine hit .325 and the Pack struggled hitting just .109.
The Pack led the final game late 23-20 before UH closed out the game and match outscoring Nevada 10-2 the rest of the way to win the game 30-25 and match 3-0. The Pack hit .324 and held the Rainbow Wahine to a .279 attack percentage in game three.
Junior Karly Sipherd and Teal Ericson led the Pack with 13 and 10 kills respectively. Setter Tristin Johnson finished with a team high 41 assists. Libero Lauren Kelly tallied a match high 13 digs.
Jamie Houston led three UH players in double digit kills with 18. Kari Gregory and Sarah Mason finished with 12 and 11 kills respectively. Houston totaled 10 digs in the match to post a double-double. Setter Kanoe Kamana`o dished out a match high 46 assists.
UH hit .336 in the match and Nevada .256. The Rainbow Wahine won the blocking battled 7-3. Freshman Sage Aune led Nevada with three block assists and Gregory totaled four blocks for Hawai`i.
Next action for Nevada is a WAC road trip to California to play at San Jose State University on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. and continues with a match at Fresno State on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m.
