Nevada’s women’s basketball team got a good feel for how far it has progressed since practice began as the Wolf Pack went through an intense and up-tempo scrimmage Sunday morning.

“I think we are ahead of schedule with some things and there are other things that we need to work on,” assistant coach Amanda Levens said. “I think the players are doing a good job at working to apply the things we are teaching them in practice. We needed this scrimmage because it really allows us to see where we are at right now.”

Junior forward Cherlanda Franklin had 12 points to lead all scorers and senior guard Traci Graham had 11 points. Senior forward Jessica Preslar scored eight points and pulled down six rebounds to go along with a pair of steals. Freshman Marissa Hammond scored nine points and led all players with eight rebounds during the scrimmage.

“This allowed us to use some different combinations on the court and see how some of the newcomers fit in,” assistant coach Jackie Moore said. “We have a lot of depth this year and we can really play that up-tempo, aggressive style that we like. We did a good job today of really pushing the ball and getting out in transition.”

The Wolf Pack will play host to Humboldt State on Saturday at Lawlor Events Center for an exhibition game. Nevada opens the regular season on Nov. 11 against Cal Poly.
