Final Stats
RENO, Nev. - Brandi Fitzgerald had the first double-double of the season for any Nevada player with 17 points and 11 rebounds but a balanced scoring attack by San Jose State was too much for Nevada as they fell in a WAC game here Saturday afternoon, 64-56.
The Spartans had four players score in double-figures, led by Lamisha Augustine, who had 18 points and eight rebounds, and shot nearly 20 percent better than Nevada from the field.
The game was very close in the first half with several lead changes as San Jose State held a two-point edge, 26-24, at the intermission. Nevada had a six-point lead early, 7-1, and held a 20-17 lead with 6:48 to play in the first half. After a tie at 21 and again at 23, the Pack went up 24-23 with 2:19 left before giving up a bucket and a free throw just before halftime.
Nevada had a five-point lead, 39-34, at the 13:04 mark by going on a 15-8 run to open the second half. Nevada would also lead, 41-40, with 11:06 to go but that was as close as they would get. San Jose State went on a 14-4 run over the next eight minutes and never looked back and led by as many as 13 enroute to the eight-point victory.
Meghan McGuire added 11 markers and Jessica Preslar had eight points and nine rebounds for Nevada (3-10, 0-2 WAC).
For San Jose State (5-6, 2-0 WAC), Anetero Uiagalelei had 15 points and Brittany Imaku and Amber Jackson each added 10 markers.
The Pack enjoyed the advantage on the boards, 46-38, and held an edge in turnovers, 15-18. However, San Jose State shot 47 percent from the field and 46 percent from three-point range to 29 percent from the field and 27 percent from long-range for Nevada.
Nevada continues WAC play this week when they head to Idaho for a Thursday night game at 6 p.m. Pacific and then travels to Boise State for a Saturday afternoon contest at 1 p.m. Pacific.
