HONOLULU (AP) - Hawaii withstood a career-high 37 points and 15 rebounds from Nevada's Nick Fazekas and the Rainbow Warriors held on to defeat the Wolf Pack in overtime, 73-69 Thursday night.
The Rainbow Warriors (8-4, 2-0 Western Athletic Conference) kept Fazekas scoreless in the extra period, and maintained first place in the WAC.
Julian Sensley led Hawaii with 19 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Matt Lojeski added 12 points and Matthew Gipson 10 points and five blocks.
With Hawaii up 69-63 with 26.8 seconds to play in overtime, Nevada's Marcelus Kemp hit back-to-back 3-pointers to cut it to 70-69 with 10.2 seconds remaining. But Sensley hit one free throw and took a charge on the ensuing inbounds play to secure the win.
Nevada (10-3, 0-1 WAC) suffered its second straight road defeat after winning its previous 14 games away from home, dating back to last season. Their streak of 10 straight conference road wins was also snapped.
Fazekas shot 11-of-25 from the field, including 3-of-6 on 3-pointers and went 12-of-13 at the foul line. Marcelus Kemp added 18 points and nine rebounds for the defending WAC champions.
Kemp's potential game winning 3-point shot in regulation clanged off the rim at the buzzer.
With Nevada down 19-6 early, Fazekas put the Wolf Pack on his back. The junior forward scored 21 of his team's next 25 points and the Wolf Pack carried a 34-31 lead into halftime.
