Reno, Nev. - The University of Nevada(0-2) fell to 0-2 on the season after falling in three games to 18th ranked San Diego(3-0) Friday night in the Sands Regency/SBC Tournament at the Virginia Street Gym in Reno, Nev. The Toreros won the close match that was tied 32 times and featured 13 lead changes by scores of 30-28, 30-28, and 31-29.

Game one was tied 11 times and there were four lead changes. The last tie came at 19-19 before USD scored the next three points and never trailed in winning 30-28. The Pack closed within a point at 29-28 but Christie Dawson's kill ended the first game. Both teams hit well with USD connecting on .433 percent of their attempts while the Pack hit .333.

The second game was tied nine times and there were three lead changes. Nevada led 23-20 but USD scored the next four points to go in front 24-23. With the game tied at 27-27 the Toreros scored two unanswered points to take a 29-27 lead. Pack junior outside hitter Carly Sorensen's kill made the score 29-28 but following a USD timeout Kristen Carlson ended the game with a kill. The Toreros hit .279 in game two and Nevada just .184.

USD jumped out early in game three but the Pack rallied to knot the score for the 12th time in the game at 29-29. The Toreros got a kill from Moira McCarthy, and a service ace from Jackie Bernardin to take the third game 31-29 and the match 3-0. USD out hit the Pack for the third consecutive game .262 to .171.

Sorensen led Nevada with 14 kills while sophomore Teal Ericson contributed 12. Setter Tristin Johnson finished with 37 assists. Libero Christine Harms, and middle blocker Salaia Salave`a reached double figures in digs finishing with 12, and 11 respectively.

 
 

Carlson posted a match high 16 kills for San Diego. Dawson, and McCarthy finished with 12 kills apiece. Bernardin had a match high 13 digs, and Lindsey Sherburne 11.

USD hit .313 compared to Nevada's .211 attack percentage. The Pack won the blocking battle 9-5. Karly Sipherd had a match high four blocks, while Salave`a, and freshman Erika Ryan finished with three each.

Saturday the Pack take on Eastern Kentucky at noon and close out the tournament versus 13th ranked UCLA at 7:00 p.m. UCLA defeated Eastern Kentucky 3-0 in the first match of the tournament on Friday.
