Final Stats
RENO, Nev. - Nevada led nearly 35 minutes and enjoyed a 13-point lead, including a 29-18 advantage at the intermission, but Cal State Fullerton stormed back and tied the game for the first time at the 5:02 mark, 44-42, and never trailed again. The Titans won, 53-49, Tuesday night at Titan Gym.
The score was tied twice and the lead changed just one time in the game and Fullerton held on for their first win (1-5).
Nevada didn't score a second half bucket until the 12:43 mark, though they did convert three free throws. That dry spell allowed Fullerton to come within three, 31-28. The score was tied at 42 with 5:22 remaining, Fullerton went ahead 44-42 at 5:03 and after tying the score at 44 with 4:47 remaining that would be as close as Nevada would get.
The Pack (1-6) was led by Anaheim native Meghan McGuire with a season-high 17 points, who played in front of friends and family as well as family and friends of other Wolf Pack players from Southern California who were in attendance. Jessica Preslar and Dellena Criner each had eight points and Preslar and Sabrina Keys both had seven rebounds in helping Nevada to a 35-29 advantage in that department.
Fullerton had three players score in double figures but they had 31 bench points to just 14 for Nevada. India McDaniel (14), Charlee Underwood (13) and Ariel Adams (11) led Fullerton in scoring and Amber Pruitt had nine rebounds.
The Titans only shot 39 percent for the game to 44 percent for Nevada and the Pack had three three-pointers to just one for Fullerton. But Fullerton was 14-22 at the free throw line and Nevada managed just 8 of 16 at the charity stripe.
The Pack returned to Reno following the game and will host arch-rival UNLV Saturday night at 7 p.m. in Lawlor Events Center. It is "Break the Attendance Record Night" so several ticket promotions and other activities surrounding the game are in place. The record for a women's game is 3,160 March 4, 2000, against North Texas. Last year's Rice game drew 2,685, the second-most in school history.
