No. 8 Tristin Johnson (Jr.,S): Named to WAC Tournament team for the second consecutive year...Surpassed 3,000 career assists at NM State(11/3)...11.22 assists per game leads the team and ranks sixth in the conference...Came off the bench vs. UNLV(10/17) after missing the previous 10 matches due to a knee injury and dished out 53 assists in a 3-2 victory...Had split time with Ashley Miller when she first returned from the injury but has since taken over as the starting setter once again...Injured her knee in the Pack's win over #21 Cal(9/16)...3,248 assists ranks fourth all-time at Nevada and her 470 career points is ninth...2003 & 2004 second-team WAC selection.

No. 24 Carly Sorensen (Jr.,OH): Led the Pack with 11 kills vs. Idaho in the first round of the WAC Tournament, and followed that with 16 vs. #8 Hawai`i...Posted her first double-double of the season and back to back double-doubles at SJSU(16k,10d), and at Fresno State(18k,24d)... Career high 24 digs at Fresno State(10/22)...Career high 30 kills vs. Montana State(9/17)...The 30 kills are tied for the third best match in school history and are the second most by a player in the WAC this season...8 times has led the Pack in kills...1,045.5 points, and 920 kills rank 3rd, and 7th respectivley all-time at Nevada...466.5 points this season is the fifth best year in school history...1,068 attacks this year are the seventh most in a season by a Nevada player, and 399 kills ranks 10th...Named to Sands Regency/SBC Tournament and Circus Circus/Molten Invitational All-Tournament squads...Reached double figues in kills in 20-of-30 matches and was one short in four other matches finishing with nine...3.41 kills per game is second on the team...3.99 points per game is 9th in the league.
PACK TEAM NOTES: Nevada is making its fifth appearance in the NCAA Tournament all coming under the direction of Head Coach Devin Scruggs...The Pack is still seeking a win in the NCAA Tournament going 0-4 in the previous four appearances...In six years in the WAC the Wolf Pack have had a first-team All-WAC selection every year and the trend continued this season with senior Salaia Salave`a earning first-team honors for the third time...Sophomores Karly Sipherd, and Teal Ericson were named to the All-WAC second team, Sipherd named to the squad for the second year in a row...Nevada is in its sixth year in the WAC in 2005 and have posted a 54-29 overall conference match record...The Pack has posted winning records each season since joining the conference going 10-6(2000), 9-4(2001), 8-5(2002), 7-6(2003), 10-3(2004) and 10-6 this season...Nevada's No. 4 seed in the 2005 WAC Tournament was tied for the lowest seed the Wolf Pack have had in the tournament as they were also No. 4 in 2003...Nevada has been seeded in the top 4 in all five WAC Tournaments in which they have competed: 2001(2nd), 2002(3rd), 2003(4th), and 2004(3rd), and 2005(4th)...The Pack snapped a season high four-game losing skid winning at Louisiana Tech(11/5) 3-2 and won four in a row before falling 3-0 at Utah State...Nevada recently played three consecutive five-game matches and five in seven outings going 3-2, the Pack defeated UNLV(10/17) but then dropped two at SJSU(10/29), and at Fresno State(10/22) before downing Louisiana Tech(11/5), and Idaho(11/10)...The Pack's 3-0 win over SJSU on Oct. 6 was the 150th career victory for head coach Devin Scruggs all coming at Nevada...Nevada had its season high nine match win streak snapped at 11th ranked Hawai`i falling 3-0 on Oct. 8...Nevada's 7-1 start to the conference season was the best WAC start in school history...According to RichKern.com the Pack are ranked ninth in the West Region...The Pack's 3-2 victory over #21 Cal(9/17) was the first win by the Nevada volleyball team over a ranked team since it won 3-0 at #25 Colorado State(9/20/2002), the same year it defeated #23 BYU(8/31/2002)...The highest ranked team the Pack has defeated in the Devin Scruggs era was 6th ranked Pacific on Sept. 18, 2001...Nevada is 1-5 versus ranked teams this season.
NEVADA MAKING FIFTH TRIP TO NCAA TOURNAMENT
Pack Take On Defending Champion Stanford At 7:00 p.m.
The University of Nevada will be making its fifth trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2005 after earning an at-large bid after posting an 18-12 mark on the year. The Wolf Pack will take on the 2004 NCAA Champion Stanford Cardinal on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. in Maples Pavilion. The Pack played Stanford at the start of last season falling 3-2 at home in the Virginia Street Gym as part of the Sands Regency/SBC Tournament. Nevada and the Cardinal squared off in the first round of the 2001 NCAA Tournament played at Stanford where the Cardinal won 3-0.
Stanford head coach John Dunning coached Nevada head coach Devin Scruggs when he was at Pacific. The two helped guide the Tigers to the 1990 NCAA Title match versus UCLA. The Bruins defeated the Tigers for the title.
This season will mark the third time the Pack has played an opening round NCAA Tournament match at Stanford. The 2001 loss to the Cardinal, and in 2002 the Pack fell 3-2 to Pacific. Nevada is still seeking its first NCAA Tournament victory. The Pack first qualified in 1998 losing to Miami(OH) in Honolulu, Hawaii. Last season Nevada was swept by Wichita State in Lincoln, Neb.
NEVADA PLACES THREE ON ALL-WAC TEAMS:
The University of Nevada placed three players on the All-WAC teams in senior Salaia Salave`a, sophomore Karly Sipherd, and sophomore Teal Ericson. In six years in the WAC the Wolf Pack has had a first-team selection every year and the trend continued this season.
Salave`a was named to the first-team for the third consecutive year after earning second-team honors her freshman year. As a freshman she was also named the WAC Freshman of the Year.
Sipherd, and Ericson were both named to the 2004 WAC Freshmen Team and the sophomore duo garnered second-team honors this season.
Sipherd was a repeat second-team selection after grabbing the honor in 2004.
Ericson was honored for the first time in 2005 as a second-team selection.
JOHNSON AND SALAVE`A NAMED TO WAC TOURNAMENT TEAM:
The University of Nevada placed two players on 2005 All-Western Athletic Conference Tournament team. Senior Salaia Salave`a was selected for the fourth consecutive year, and junior setter Tristin Johnson was honored for the second year in a row.
Salave`a averaged 3.57 kills, 1.71 digs, .86 blocks, and hit .228 in two matches. In the semifinals versus top seeded and eighth ranked Hawai`i she posted a match high 20 kills, and hit .389.
Johnson averaged 13.43 assists, 1.86 kills, and 1.43 digs in Nevada's two matches. In the Pack's first round victory over Idaho she totaled 35 assists, and followed that with 59 assists versus Hawai`i.
SALAVE`A AND SIPHERD NAMED TO WAC PRE-SEASON TEAM: University of Nevada senior, middle blocker, Salaia Salave`a and sophomore, middle blocker Karly Sipherd were named to the 2005 WAC preseason team. Salave`a was honored for the third year in a row while Sipherd was named to the squad for the first time. Salave`a is a two-time first-team All-WAC selection while Sipherd was named to the second-team and Freshmen Team last season.
