Reno, Nev. - The fourth seeded University of Nevada(18-11) Wolf Pack swept the fifth seeded Idaho(16-14) Vandals on Thanksgiving Evening at Lawlor Events Center to advance to the semifinals of the 2005 Western Athletic Conference tournament in Reno, Nev. With the victory the Pack improved to 18-11 while UI ended their season at 16-14. Nevada won by scores of 30-22, 36-34, and 30-23 to advance.
Nevada now takes on the eighth ranked and top seeded Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine on Friday at 6:30 p.m. UH swept Boise State to advance to the semifinals.
The Pack jumped out early in game one building an eight-point advantage at 12-4 and cruised to the 30-22 victory. Nevada hit .290 and held UI an attack percentage of zero.
Game two was tied 15 times and there were six lead changes before the Pack prevailed 36-34. With the game tied at 34-34 senior Salaia Salave`a delivered the kill to give Nevada the lead. An attack error by Amanda Bowman gave the Pack the victory and a two games to none lead. The Pack hit .205 in game two and the Vandals .170.
Nevada came out of the locker room looking to end the match and did scoring a 30-23 victory in the final game to take the match 3-0. With the game tied 10-10 the Pack scored the next seven points with six coming on the serve of Lindsay Holda to take control of the game. Nevada hit .209 in game three and held IU to a .062 attack percentage.
Carly Sorensen, and Erika Ryan led Nevada with 11, and 10 kills respectively. Setter Tristin Johnson totaled 35 assists, and libero Christine Harms posted a match high 13 digs.
Haley Larsen had a match high 12 kills for the Vandals. Setter Saxony Brown finished with a match high 37 assists. Stacy Sode, and Andrea Fox tied for team high honors with nine digs apiece.
The Pack hit .229 in the match and held IU to a .091 attack percentage. Nevada won the blocking battle 11-4. Karly Sipherd had seven blocks for the Pack and Ryan six.
