DENVER - Nevada running back B.J. Mitchell, Fresno State defensive end Garrett McIntyre and Hawai`i place kicker Dan Kelly were named the Xbox Live Western Athletic Conference offensive, defensive and special teams players of the week, respectively.
Mitchell, a senior from Loomis, Calif. (Del Oro HS), rushed for 193 yards and two touchdowns on 34 carries in Nevada's 48-24 win at New Mexico State. It was his fifth 100-yard rushing day of the year. Mitchell's long run was 16 yards, and he averaged 5.7 yards per carry. His first score came after New Mexico State had scored a touchdown and gave the Wolf Pack a 17-7 lead with under two minutes to go in the first half.
He won the award earlier this year for his efforts in the win over Idaho and is the third Nevada player to be honored this season. Senior defensive end Craig Bailey and senior punter Justin Bergendahl picked up accolades after the victory over UNLV.
McIntyre, a senior from South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (South Lake Tahoe HS), recorded four tackles, including two sacks for a loss of 16 yards, in Fresno State's 27-7 win over Boise State. McIntyre helped hold Boise State to its lowest scoring output in 85 games and just 294 yards of total offense. The Bulldogs' victory snapped the Broncos' WAC-record 31-game conference winning streak.
Kelly, a freshman from Temecula, Calif. (Linfield Christian), made both field goals and all six extra point attempts in Hawai`i's 50-23 win over Utah State. He made a career-long 46-yard field goal (tied for the fifth longest by a WAC player this year) and added a 31-yarder, both coming in the first quarter.
