Considered a rising star in the coaching profession, Courtney Viney enters his second season at Nevada in 2018 under second-year head coach Jay Norvell and will coach the Wolf Pack’s cornerbacks.

In his first season coaching the cornerbacks, former defensive backs Ahki Muhammad and Elijah Moody combined for 94 total tackles, each ranking inside the top nine on the team. Viney’s corners finished the year with four interceptions, 12 pass breakups and forced four fumbles.

A top prep player out of California’s central valley, Viney went on to UCLA and later played at New Mexico State. He’s earned three collegiate degrees, including a master’s in administrative leadership from Oklahoma.

Viney came to the Wolf Pack after a four-year stint at Oklahoma where began as a graduate assistant and then spent two seasons as a special teams quality control coach for the Sooners.

While at Oklahoma, Viney worked with a pair of NFL Draft picks in Aaron Colvin and Zack Sanchez as well as Jordan Thomas, who was a first-team all-conference selection for the Sooners in 2015.

A four-time scholar-athlete out of Fresno’s Edison High School, Viney went on to play at UCLA. He was named the Bruins scout team player of the year as a true freshman and would go on to be a team captain and a three-time honor roll member and letter winner.

After graduating with a degree in history, Viney transferred to New Mexico State to play his senior season. He would later earn a master’s degree in communications from NMSU.
