RENO, Nev. – After a successful last month of competition, Karoline Sauer has been named the Wolf Pack Student-Athlete of the Month.
Sauer’s success has been consistent on and off the track. The senior is a psychology major at the University of Nevada with a minor in statistics and has a 3.709 cumulative GPA. Sauer has also been participating in conducting research in both psychology and neuroscience labs on campus. Her current thesis project is focusing on learning disabilities and the differences in neurological pathways.
Sauer has had a great start to the indoor season. Since the start of the season, the senior now holds the Nevada indoor record in the 600 meter dash, is second all-time in the 400m dash, and is seventh all-time in the 800m dash.
At the Bronco Invitational, Sauer’s time of 1:31.97 in the 600m run was good enough for first place in the meet as well as the school’s all time record.
In the Ed Jacoby Invitational, Sauer saw success in two different events. Sauer competed in the 800 meter dash and finished the event with a time of 2:12.60. This time was good enough for a first place finish at the meet, and a seventh place placement in the Nevada top ten for the event. The senior was also part of the 4x400m relay team that finished first in the meet.
Lastly, at the New Mexico Team Open, Sauer competed in the 400m dash. Her time of 54.38 earned her a first place finish in the event and put her at second all-time at Nevada for the event.
The Pack will be taking this week off before it travels to Boise for the third time to compete in the Boise State Challenge on Feb. 14-15.
