Lo Leath joined the Nevada Men's Basketball coaching staff as an assistant in April 2025. A Sacramento native with deep ties to both the collegiate and grassroots levels of the game, Leath brings a dynamic background built on mentorship, player development, and winning experience.
Before arriving in Reno, Leath spent the 2024-25 season as an assistant coach at the University of Utah. Prior to that, he spent two years at his alma mater, Sacramento State. In his first season with the Hornets, the team recorded 14 wins, the most by any first-year coaching staff in the Division I era and the third most in school history. That season, Sacramento State secured a top-six seed in the Big Sky Conference Tournament and earned a first-round bye for the first time since joining the league in 1996. The team led the conference in rebounding margin and offensive boards and ranked among the top three in scoring defense. Their plus-six scoring margin was tied for fifteenth-best in the nation.
Leath’s coaching roots run deep through the Oakland Soldiers, the nationally known grassroots program where he coached from 2012 to 2016 and served as vice president from 2016 to 2022. Under his leadership, the Soldiers won multiple Nike EYBL titles and produced over 100 Division I athletes. Eleven players from the program advanced to the NBA or G League, including Jalen Green, Aaron Gordon, Ziaire Williams, and Josh Christopher. Leath also created chapters of the program in cities across California and launched the Lady Soldiers, the group’s first women’s basketball program. His impact in the sport was recognized by Silver Waves Media, naming him one of the 100 most impactful people in men’s collegiate basketball.
As a player, Leath starred at Sacramento State from 2005 to 2009. He finished his career fifth in program history in scoring and was the only player in the Division I era to average double-digit points in all four seasons. He made 240 career three-pointers, which ranks first in the Division I era and fourth all-time at the school. His 41-point outburst at Northern Colorado in 2008 remains the top single-game scoring performance by a Hornet at the Division I level. Leath was named to Sacramento State’s all-decade team and was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame in 2016. After graduation, he played professionally in France and Spain.
Born in Oakland and raised between there and Los Angeles, Leath attended 15 different schools before finishing his prep career at Cleveland High in LA, where he played alongside NBA veteran Nick Young. He earned all-state, all-city, and all-area honors as a senior. He graduated from Sacramento State in 2009 with a degree in mass media communications.
Leath also shares a special connection to Nevada through family. His cousin, Kevinn Pinkney, was a standout forward for the Wolf Pack and helped lead the team to the Sweet Sixteen in 2004. Pinkney was a key part of one of the most successful eras in program history, and Leath now joins the staff with pride in continuing that family legacy.
Leath and his wife, Brittani, have three daughters named London, Myoko, and Capri.
