RENO, Nev. – University of Nevada head cross country coach Kirk Elias has announced the hiring of Wolf Pack All-American EmKay Myers as assistant cross country coach for the men’s and women’s programs.  Myers ran cross country and competed in track & field four seasons for the Pack from 2012-17 and was volunteer coach in the fall of 2017.

“I am delighted to have Emkay Myers join our staff,” Elias said. “She is sharp, goal oriented, and personable. These qualities, along with her experience both as an athlete and then later as a volunteer assistant with our program gives her some real insight into how our program operates. The combination of these traits will enable her to step in immediately and play a role with our teams and as a member of our staff.”

Myers placed 13th in the steeplechase at the 2017 NCAA Championships to earn second-team All-America honors.  In 2012 she was named the Mountain West Cross Country Freshman of the Year and in 2015 she was an All-MW cross country selection.  She was a 2015 and 2017 academic All-American and received All-MW honors three years.

In 2014 and 2017 she earned All-MW honors competing in indoor and outdoor track & field.  Myers holds five school records in the 2000-meter and 3000-meter steeplechase, 5000-meter indoor and outdoor and 3000-meter indoor events.  She has qualified for the 2020 Olympic Trials in the marathon.

The Cabot, Ark. native received two degree from Nevada, a bachelor’s degree in international affairs in December of 2015 and a master’s of public administration in 2017.
