Mike Chamoures was elevated to an assistant coach with the Wolf Pack football program in July of 2018, and enters his second year working with the Wolf Pack safeties.
In 2018, Chamoures saw both of his starting safeties selected as All-Mountain West Honorable Mentions in Dameon Baber and Asauni Rufus. Rufus racked up the fourth-most tackles for the Pack with 65, as Baber came in right behind him at fifth with 60. Baber led the team with three interceptions on the year, as Rufus recorded one of his own as well.
Thanks in large part to its safety play, Nevada’s total defense dropped by nearly 100 yards, from allowing 471.3 yards per game to 378.3.
Chamoures joined the Wolf Pack staff in 2017 as a defensive quality control coach. He coached in 2016 at Southern Connecticut State and spent three years before that at West Virginia Wesleyan as the offensive coordinator.
He has ties with Nevada defensive coordinator Jeff Casteel, having spent two seasons as a student assistant and two more as a graduate assistant with Casteel at West Virginia. The pair worked together for another year at Arizona in 2012.
Chamoures earned his undergraduate degree in Athletic Coaching Education from West Virginia University in 2009. He went on to earn his master's degree in Athletic Coaching Education, also from West Virginia in 2012. He played high school football at New Fairfield High School in Connecticut.
He currently resides in Sparks with his wife Mara.
