David White enters his second year on the Nevada football coaching staff as an assistant coach under second-year head coach Jay Norvell. White will coach the team’s running backs.

In his first season with the program, White guided junior Kelton Moore to a breakout campaign in the backfield. Moore led the team and ranking eighth in the Mountain West in rushing at 71.2 yards per game. He was named the MW Player of the Week after a monster 216 rushing yard performance against Hawai'i. Moore recorded four 100-yard rushing games and four rushing TDs on the year and added 19 receptions for 189 yards to display his versatility.

White brings an array of unique experiences to the Nevada football program as he has served as a head football coach at the high school level, assistant coach at the college level, a director of player development and has spent time as a motivational speaker over the years. Prior to Nevada, White served as the director of player development at the Army All-American Bowl and as the director of the FBU All-American Bowl. White served in this capacity since 2010, evaluating and recruiting prospective U.S. Army All-American Bowl players nationwide.

From 2007-10, White spent time at Oklahoma with Coach Norvell. He began his time with the Sooners as a graduate assistant and finished as the program’s recruiting coordinator. During his years at Oklahoma he assisted with the offensive line, tight ends and special teams and coached in two Big XII Championship games and one National Championship in 2009. He was also responsible for day to day recruiting operations, evaluating prospects on a national level, and coordinated the No. 2 recruiting class in the country for 2010.

White has a vast amount of experience in the high school ranks as well, coaching at three different high schools. He most notably was the head coach and architect in building Bishop Gorman into a national powerhouse in Las Vegas. During his four-year tenure as head coach, Bishop Gorman went 30-12 overall and won three conference championships. White coached five All-Americans and sent 38 players to play at the NCAA level, including Demarco Murray (OU/NFL), Xavier Grimble (USC/NFL) and Ryan Reynolds (OU). He was an assistant coach on the 2005 U.S. Army All-American West team which defeated the East, 35-3. Additionally Bishop Gorman was the only high school in the nation to have three players who played in the U.S. Army All-American game for three consecutive years.

White has been a motivational speaker throughout the years, having the chance to speak at colleges such as Clemson, Florida, Ohio State, Texas A&M and UCLA, among others. His speech focuses on the struggles of two-a-day camps and relates back to his experiences playing college football.

As a player White suited up at UNLV for his college ball and was named to the all-conference team as a tight end in 1994. He also played briefly in the Arena League and the European Federation of American Football (EFAF) for two seasons, splitting time in France and Switzerland.

He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 1996. White has a son, Breckston, with his fiancé Brooke, as well as guardians to JD Kolb, who they have raised since the eighth grade.
