RENO, Nev. - Sean Yamaguchi broke things open with a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth, keying Nevada's series-opening 13-3, eight-inning win over arch-rival UNLV at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park.

The homer was the 10th of the season for Yamaguchi, and highlighted his 3-for-3, four-RBI night. Jake Harvey also had two hits and drove in three runs, and Rominic Quiban finished with three hits.

Junhyuk Kwon capped his three-hit, three-RBI night with the walk-off double to left, scoring Mikey Cruz Jr. and Jacob Doyle to start the celebration. Earlier in the game, he went the opposite way for his seventh homer of the year.

Aidan Brainard, the reigning Mountain West Pitcher of the Week, was solid for the second-straight Friday, improving to 5-2 in striking out eight and allowing just three runs (two earned) in a seven-inning outing. Dominic Desch struck out two in a scoreless eighth.

Harvey got the scoring started for Nevada in the bottom of the second, going the opposite way through the right side and driving in Quiban and Jayce Dobie for a 2-1 lead.

UNLV (23-18, 6-10 MW) came back with runs in the third and fourth to take a 3-2 lead, but it was short-lived as Nevada (22-16, 11-5 MW) put two on the board in the fourth to reassume the advantage at 4-3.

Kwon tied it up with a towering solo shot to right-center. Yamaguchi walked, then worked his way around on a wild pitch, a groundout, then scored on Harvey's one-out grounder to put the Pack in front.

Cruz capped the scoring in the sixth, extending his hitting streak to 23 games with an RBI double. For the night, Cruz drove in three and went 2-for-5.

UNLV starter Parker Dillhoff fell to 3-3 with the loss, charged with eight runs on 10 hits over five innings.

Nevada goes for the series win tomorrow at 2:05 p.m.
