Wolf Pack cruises past Pacific

Nevada 6, Pacific 1

Reno, Nev. - Christina M. Hixson Park

RENO, Nev. - Nevada Softball cruised to a 6-1 victory over Pacific Tuesday afternoon at Christina M. Hixson Park.

Hailey McLean was in command in the circle, striking out four and allowing just two hits over four scoreless innings to improve to 7-4.

At the plate, back-to-back homers from Hannah Di Genova and Haylee Engelbrecht in the third broke open a two-run game and put the Pack (30-14) in control. Bailie Clark capped the four-run frame, and Nevada's scoring for the day, with a sacrifice fly.

Di Genova set her second program single-season record, as her two-run homer gave her 66 RBIs on the season. The mark eclipses Gabby Herrera's previous benchmark of 65 set in 2024.

Anna Braukus doubled twice while Engelbrecht's homer was her eighth of the season.

Tess Bumiller, Ashley Berlingeri and Sofie Seese each worked a frame to close out the win.

Nevada took advantage of Pacific miscues in each of its scoring frames. In the first, Matlyn Leetch beat out a two-out bunt and pitcher Alexa Lewis' throw went wide and down the line in right. The error allowed both Katie Wetteland and Di Genova to score, making it 2-0.

Pacific (13-29) would wound itself again in the pivotal bottom of the third, as Bailey Boetjer dropped a sure out at first on Wetteland's one-out grounder to short. Di Genova blasted her 20th homer of the season in the next at-bat, and the Pack would take advantage of the extra out to go up 6-0.

Lewis fell to 4-6 with the loss, giving up five runs (two earned) over 2.1 innings. Pacific got its only run of the game with two out in the seventh on Jordan Hayes' solo homer.

Nevada resumes Mountain West play this weekend, traveling to Colorado State for a three-game set beginning Friday at 5 p.m. PT.
