Sunday, March 8, 2026
Reno, Nev. - Don Weir Field at Peccole Park

WP: Jordan Giacomini (2-1)
LP: Liam Smith (1-1)

RENO, Nev. - It was a perfect day for baseball Sunday at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park, and Nevada cruised to an 12-2 eight-inning victory for a three-game sweep of Pacific.

Jack Metcho wrapped a two-hit, three-RBI being hit by a pitch to force in the game-ending run in the bottom of the eighth. The win was Nevada's fifth in a row and improved the Wolf Pack's record at home to 6-0 for the campaign.

The Wolf Pack (8-5) got a run in each of the first two innings to take a quick 2-0 lead. It was the bottom of the fourth when Nevada broke it open and pulled away thanks to a Tiger error.

Pacific second baseman Rylan Evans dropped a two-out fly ball in short center field, allowing Rominic Quiban to score from first and keeping the frame alive for the Pack. Junhyuk Kwon, who went 2-for-5 with two RBIs on the day, immediately made Tiger starter Liam Smith pay, doubling to center to score Jayce Dobie, then coming around on Lee Matsuzaki's RBI single to make it 5-0.

Matsuzaki capped a standout weekend with a 4-for-5 performance at the plate, adding a double and driving in two runs.

Mikey Cruz Jr. went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Pack, getting his first Nevada hit and RBI with an RBI single in the four-run fifth. Metcho highlighted the inning with a two-run triple into the corner in right.

Wolf Pack starter Jordan Giacomini improved to 2-1, striking out four and holding the Tigers (6-9) scoreless into the sixth until giving up two runs.

Smith had his record evened at 1-1 with the loss, giving up five runs (two earned) on six hits over 3.2 innings.

Nevada goes on the road for four games this upcoming week, making a return trip to Stanford Wednesday night before heading to Fresno to begin Mountain West play Friday night, March 14.
