CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. — Nevada opened the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic with a 4–2 loss to Oregon State on Thursday afternoon.
Oregon State (6-7) generated early momentum with runs in the first two innings, but Nevada's bullpen settled the pace from there.
Tess Bumiller entered in the second and delivered a composed, extended outing that kept the Beavers' offense contained.
Talia Tretton had a clean sixth inning, giving the Pack a chance to climb back.
Nevada's breakthrough came in the fifth, when
Maya Larsen delivered a two‑run home run to left to pull the Pack within one at 3-2.
Haylee Engelbrecht set the table with a single earlier in the inning, and Larsen's swing shifted the momentum squarely back toward Nevada.
The Pack collected seven hits on the day, including a multi‑hit performance from
Katie Wetteland.
Nevada (6-6) continues play at the Mary Nutter Classic tomorrow, taking on California at 12:30 p.m. and No. 11/6 UCLA at 3:30 p.m.
