RENO, Nev. - Nevada linebacker
EJ Smith was named to the Associated Press Midseason All-America Second Team Thursday.
Smith has quickly established himself as one of the top defenders in the nation in his second season with the Wolf Pack. Through Week 6 he ranks second in the country in total tackles (59), tackles per game (11.8) and solo tackles per game (6.2) while leading the Pack in both sacks (2.5) and TFLs (4.5). He has made double-digit tackles in three of the Pack's five games this season including a career-high 21 (10 solo) against Air Force September 26.
Smith was the only Mountain West representative on either of the two AP teams and one of just three players from a Group of Six program. Only six linebackers were selected—three apiece for the first and second teams.
The Wolf Pack makes its second road trip in as many weeks this Saturday, heading to Fargo to face North Dakota State in a key Mountain West matchup Saturday at 4 p.m. PT.
