SAN JOSE - Nevada's magic number to clinch its fourth Mountain West regular-season title is down to one after Peyton Fosher and Dominic Desch shined in a 3-2 win at San José State Thursday night.

The Wolf Pack (32-20, 18-10 MW) can clinch a share of its first regular-season Mountain West title since 2021 with either a win in tomorrow's 6:05 p.m. game against the Spartans or a Fresno State loss at New Mexico. Nevada remains a game ahead of the Bulldogs, victors Thursday over the Lobos, with two to play.

Thursday, Fosher rebounded from giving up San José State's only two runs of the game in the first inning, shutting down the Spartans over the next five-plus frames. The Texan improved to 5-4 on the year, striking out six over 6.1 innings.

Desch took over with runners on first and second and one out in the seventh and promptly ended the threat with some help from Michael Ball. After Desch got Rocco Caballero on strikes for the second out, Ball made a quick transfer and throw on a bouncer to short to get the speedy Alex Fernandes by less than a step at first to end the threat.

Ball played a key role with both the leather and the composite alloy Thursday. He went 2-for-4 on the night, scoring the Wolf Pack's first run after a leadoff single in the fifth, then lining a go-ahead, two-run homer just inside the line to left in the sixth.

Desch went the rest of the way after getting out of the seventh. After stranding a runner in the eighth, he picked up the eight-out save with a 1-2-3 ninth.

Jackson Waller also had two hits for the Pack, driving in Ball with its first run.

San José State (25-27, 12-16 MW) got its two runs in the first on Jake McCoy's triple. Starter Win Scott worked into the sixth, giving up two runs and taking a no-decision. Nolan George came on for Scott with the tying run on and surrendered Ball's go-ahead homer, taking the loss to fall to 3-4.
