Reno, Nev. - Don Weir Field at Peccole Park
WP: Kai Yovanovitch (1-0)
LP: Jake Cumming (1-1)
RENO, Nev. - Nevada scored four times in the ninth to force extra innings, but fell, 11-8, to San Francisco in 10 innings Monday at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park.
The Dons (15-22) got a three-run homer from Eddison Esquivel off of Nevada reliever
Jake Cumming with two out in the 10th to account for the winning runs.
The extra frame was forced with four Nevada runs in the ninth. Pinch-hitter
Jake Harvey started the rally with a one-out walk, and
Jackson Waller followed with a single to put two on.
The scoring parade started with
Jayce Dobie's RBI single to left, then Waller came in on
Sean Yamaguchi's line drive to right-center, cutting the deficit to two at 8-6. An RBI double from
Jacob Doyle plated Dobie to make it a one-run game.
After
Billy Ham was intentionally walked, Dons reliever Kai Yovanovitch struck out
Taylor Holder for the second out. But Yovanovitch issued a four-pitch walk to
Nate Snakenborg to tie it up at 8-8 before getting
Antonio Avila to fly out to center to leave the bases loaded.
Early on, Nevada (20-16) took a quick lead in the first on Ham's three-run homer. Ham drove in four runs in the contest, adding a sacrifice fly in the fourth as he went 1-for-2 with a walk and was hit by a pitch.
Wolf Pack starter
Jayce Dobie kept the Dons off the board for the opening two frames before running into some trouble in the third. Rogers scored the Dons' opening run on a mistake by the Pack defense—with two runners on the move on a 3-2 pitch, Wolf Pack catcher
Nate Snakenborg fired ball four to DeCelle to second. The errant throw went into center field, allowing Rogers to trot home.
Esquivel followed with a single to right to score Jordan Lewis and cut the Nevada lead to 3-2.
Dobie went three innings for the Pack, striking out three while giving up two runs on four hits.
TJ Rogers led the Dons going 4-for-5 with a triple and RBI, while Brendan Burke was 3-for-5 with an RBI. Esquivel finished the day 3-for-6 with his homer and five RBIs.
