San Francisco, Calif. - Benedetti Diamond
WP: Eric Valdez (2-0)
LP: Aidan Risse (2-1)
SAN FRANCISCO - Two home runs, including
Michael Ball's third of the weekend, did the job for Nevada Sunday as the Wolf Pack took its third-straight series with a 5-1 win over San Francisco.
Taylor Holder opened the scoring with a three-run shot in the top of the second, and San Francisco's (8-8) single tally in the bottom half marked the scoring through the first six innings.
Reliever
Eric Valdez was a big part of that. Valdez came on with one out in the third when Wolf Pack starter
Casey Burfield was lifted, and struck out seven over 5.2 scoreless innings. Overall, Valdez was one of three Wolf Pack pitchers to hold San Francisco to a run on just four hits.
Valdez earned his second win of the season when
Michael Ball followed
Jake Harvey's leadoff single in the seventh with a two-run shot to left-center, his third homer of the series.
After Valdez finished a scoreless eighth,
Dominic Desch worked a 1-2-3 ninth to seal the series win.
Ball finished a strong series with a 3-for-5, two-RBI game at the plate, while Holder's three-run homer and
Billy Ham's two hits also sparked Nevada (9-6).
San Francisco starter Aidan Risse took his first loss of the year, giving up three runs on seven hits over five innings.
Nevada, winners of seven of nine, closes the wraparound weekend with a 6 p.m. one-off Monday night at Sacramento State.
