SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Nevada Wolf Pack (16-14, 8-11 MWC) heads to Viejas Arena on Saturday, March 8, to take on the San Diego State Aztecs (20-8, 13-6 MWC) in a crucial Mountain West showdown. With the conference tournament looming, Nevada looks to build momentum and snap a 12-game road losing streak against the Aztecs.
The Nevada Wolf Pack will look to their leading scorers,
Nick Davidson and
Kobe Sanders, as they prepare to take on San Diego State in their regular-season finale. Both players have been instrumental in Nevada's offense, averaging 15.7 points per game, with Davidson also leading the team in rebounding at 6.3 boards per contest.
Sanders, a versatile guard, has added 4.4 assists per game, making him a key playmaker for the Wolf Pack. On the other side, San Diego State is led by Miles Byrd and Magoon Gwath, with Byrd averaging 13.0 points per game and Gwath controlling the paint with 5.2 rebounds per contest. The last time these two teams met on January 25 in Reno, San Diego State dominated defensively, securing a 69-50 victory. The Aztecs stifled Nevada's offense, holding the Wolf Pack to 35% shooting from the field. Nevada's top scorers in that game were Sanders (12 points, eight rebounds), Davidson (13 points), and
Xavier DuSell (11 points), but their efforts weren't enough to overcome San Diego State's physical defense.
The Aztecs were led by Magoon Gwath, who posted a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds, while Miles Byrd contributed nine assists to orchestrate the offense. If they hope to flip the script in the rematch at Viejas Arena, Nevada will need a much-improved offensive performance and a strong rebounding effort.
The game is set for 7:30 p.m. and broadcast on FS1 with Trent Rush as your Play-by-Play and Terrence Oglesby as your analyst.
