BOISE, Idaho – The Wolf Pack offense exploded to cap the series win over Boise State, improving to 2-1 in conference play. The Pack scored 13 runs in the third inning, the most in a single inning since March 25, 2018. Nevada's 17 runs are the most in a game since March 31, 2019.
Before the Pack's big inning, the game was tight. Neither team produced runs in the first inning, with only one base runner between the teams. Each team scored twice in the second inning. A two-out double from
Bailie Clark scored both of the Pack's runs. The Sydney Groves homered to score on of the Bronco runs, in addition to a Quinn Southerland RBI single.
The third inning started with nine consecutive batters getting on base through a combination of hits, walks, fielder's choices, and errors.
Aaliyah Jenkins got things going with a bunt single.
Haley Painter followed with a single to right field, busting her five-game hitless slump.
Maya Larsen loaded the bases with a walk.
Hannah Di Genova drove in the first runs of the inning with a single up the middle to score Jenkins and Painter.
Three straight Boise State errors allowed the Pack to reload the bases and move from station to station while scoring two runs. Clark singled to score the fifth run of the inning and
Haylee Engelbrecht scored on a wild pitch.
Saige Alfaro extended her on-base streak to eight games with a single past the first basemen, scoring Leetch and Clark.
Following a Boise State pitching change Painter hit her 12
th home run of the season to score Alfaro. The Pack got two runners aboard for
Saskia Raab's first career hit, scoring Larsen for the second time in the inning.
A sacrifice fly by Engelbrecht gave the Wolf Pack 14, and Leetch beat out a grounder to the pitcher to score Raab, the last run of the inning.
The scoring wasn't over for the Pack as Jenkins hit her second home run in as many games to give the Wolf Pack its final two runs of the game.
Nine different players recorded a hit, including four players who got two or more hits. Jenkins led the way with three hits and two RBI, while Painter, Di Genova, and Clark each got hits.
The Wolf Pack pitching did its part, splitting time between
Tess Bumiller and
Jessica McPartland. Bumiller got the start and the win, pitching three innings and only allowing four hits and a pair of runs. McPartland closed the final two innings allowing four hits and just one run.
Nevada will play at home for the first time this season on Tuesday, March 25 at 3 p.m. against Idaho State, a single midweek game before Nevada hosts San Diego State for the weekend.
