Saturday, March 22, 2025
Reno, Nev. - Don Weir Field at Peccole Park

WP: Alessandro Castro (3-2)
LP: Ryan Castillo (3-2)

RENO, Nev. - Nevada wasted little time putting away Saturday's game against New Mexico, jumping the Lobos for three runs in the first and slamming 12 extra-base hits en route to evening the series with a 20-4, seven-inning win.

Jackson Waller had a career day, smashing two three-run homers and driving in a career-high nine runs while going 3-for-4. Waller's first three-run homer came in the second, putting the Wolf Pack up 6-0, while his second was in the fifth, capping Nevada's scoring. His nine RBIs were the most for the Wolf Pack player since Dario Gomez drove in eight runs against Fresno State on March 20, 2021.

Junhyuk Kwon went 2-for-4 with four RBIs, and Jacob Doyle and Taylor Holder each went 3-for-4 with two doubles as Nevada (13-9, 2-3 MW) pounded nine doubles on the day. Jayce Dobie also had a three-hit day, driving in a run and scoring twice.

Alessandro Castro improved to 3-2 on the season, going six innings allowing just three runs and striking out three.

The Wolf Pack onslaught got going with two out in the first. Holder drove in Michael Ball with a double then came around on Billy Ham's double down the third-base line. Dobie followed with a single to left-center which plated Ham to make it 3-0.

Harvey walked and Kwon was hit by a pitch to open the second and set up Waller's first-pitch blast off of Lobo starter Ryan Castillo. Castillo fell to 3-2 with the loss, giving up six runs on seven hits.

Kwon lined a two-run single in the fourth and Waller followed with two more RBIs, lining one into the corner in right for a triple.

Doubles in the fifth from Doyle and Jack Metcho added two more runs, and Waller capped the scoring with his second three-run shot of the day.

New Mexico (12-10, 4-1 MW) scored on solo homers from Ethan Ott and Caleb Herd along with a two-run double from Tye Wood in the fifth.
