Sunday, Feb. 23, 2025
Reno, Nev. - Don Weir Field at Peccole Park

WP: Dominic Desch (1-0)
LP: Nick Perryman (0-1)

RENO, Nev. - Nevada capitalized on a CSU Bakersfield error to take the lead in the sixth inning, then blew the game open with seven more unanswered runs to take the lead in the four-game series with a 12-4 victory Sunday at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park.

Reliever Dominic Desch picked up his first win of the season, tossing the final 3.1 innings and giving up no runs while striking out two.

Michael Ball went deep with a two-run homer in a 2-for-5 day at the plate, while Taylor Holder had three RBIs and Billy Ham had three hits with two runs driven in. Jackson Waller also had one of his best offensive days of the season, going 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.

Waller would score the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth, hustling home when Nick Perryman's pickoff attempt to third base went past the bag and up the left-field line.

Nevada (3-4) rode that momentum into big seventh and eighth innings, beginning with an RBI single from Jacob Doyle and a two-run double from Holder. Ham delivered the big blow in the eighth, a two-run double to make it 11-4 Wolf Pack.

Perryman took his first loss of the season for the Roadrunners (2-5), charged with three runs (one earned) over 1.2 innings of relief.

Nevada starter Casey Burfield took a no-decision, going 5.2 innings and giving up four runs (three earned).

Nevada goes for the series win in Monday's 12:05 p.m. matinee.
