Box Score SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Nevada women's basketball traveled to Southern California on Wednesday, taking on San Diego State for the second time in the regular season. The Pack fell to the Aztecs with a final score of 72-43.
Offense started slow for the Pack as they didn't get their first basket until over a minute and a half into the game, which came off of a jumper by
Dymonique Maxie.Â
The basket cut into SDSU's early five-point lead, making it only three. The defense of Nevada struggled to stop San Diego State as the Aztecs continued to hit baskets and extend the lead.Â
Late in the first,
Imbie Jones hit back-to-back shots to bring the lead back to single digits. She started with a jumper before knocking down a three.
After a tough opening quarter, Nevada was trailing, 22-13.
The second quarter continued much like the first. The Pack weren't able to get baskets down as the Aztecs only continued to make them. Heading into the break, Nevada had ground to cover, trailing 46-24.
The Pack outscored the Aztecs in the third quarter, 15-11, while having a 4.6% better shooting percentage. The second half was also better in rebounds as Nevada grabbed 18 boards between the two quarters. In the fourth quarter, Nevada had nine rebounds, six of them coming from
Rakiyah Jackson. They also forced the Aztecs to turn the ball over 10 times in the second half.
Lexie Givens led in shooting for the Pack with 17 points, followed by Maxie with 11. Jackson came away with eight boards overall, while Givens had seven.
Nevada will return home to host Wyoming on Saturday at 6:30 PM on Senior Day and Breast Cancer Awareness Day.Â
