Givens sets games played record as Pack fall to Rebels

Box Score LAS VEGAS, Nev. - In the first of two Silver State series match ups for Nevada women's basketball, the Pack were away taking on the Rebels. Nevada fell short in the battle, 68-59.

Lexie Givens broke another record, making it 137 games played in her career, the most in program history. She and Olivia Poulivaati led the team in scoring with 13.

Nevada got on the board first with a layup by Dymonique Maxie. UNLV tied it up in the next possession before Imbie Jones hit a jumper to put the Pack back in front.

After a tie with just under eight minutes left, the Pack had the advantage again thanks to a Givens free throw. From there, Nevada had control for the majority of the remaining first quarter. They only gave up the lead one other.

With back-to-back threes coming from Givens and Victoria Davis, the Pack jumped ahead again by two, with just over two and a half remaining. The Rebels tried to grab the advantage, but the Pack held them off.

The opening quarter came to a close with Nevada holding the lead, 22-18.

Quarter two began with a three splashed by Maxie, followed by a jumper by Imbie Jones to put the Pack up by nine.

UNLV couldn't keep up as Nevada continued to put the pressure on and add on the the lead. The Pack saw their largest advantage of 10 in the second, as Poulivaati hit a three of her own.

The Pack was in front for nearly all of the second quarter, only giving up the lead once. It came in the final two minutes as a free throw and three put the Rebels ahead.

At the half, Nevada trailed by just one, 38-37.

Coming out of the break, Givens put the Pack up again with a layup that gave them a 39-38 advantage. Despite the lead, Nevada couldn't hold onto it as UNLV started to take control.

The Pack never let the Rebels get comfortable, however, as they kept the intensity high and cut into every lead UNLV attempted to build. Nevada came back from being down by as much as 11, to trail by seven with a minute left.

Into the final 10, the Wolf Pack had some work to do as they were down, 57-48. Nevada struggled to get shots to fall as they got good looks, but weren't able to capitalize on them.

Despite being down by as much as nine in the fourth, the Pack battled to cut it to five with under a minute to go. However, they weren't able to complete the comeback and fell just short.

Nevada will get the chance to tie their part of the Silver State series when UNLV comes to Reno on February 15 at 1 PM.

The Pack's next match up will be with the Boise State Broncos at home on February 5 at 6:30 PM.
