Nevada Athletics partners with ASUN Pack Provisions for second "Pack the Pantry" food drive

RENO, Nev. – Nevada Athletics and the Associated Students of the University of Nevada (ASUN) are joining forces once again during the week of Oct. 6-11 for the second "Pack the Pantry" event.

Pack the Pantry is a community food drive which benefits Pack Provisions, the University's on-campus food pantry dedicated to ensuring that no member of the Wolf Pack experiences food insecurity. Pack Provisions plays a crucial role in addressing food insecurity by providing free access to essential food and hygiene items for students, staff and faculty in need.

"Addressing the issue of food insecurity is a battle which requires a strong, united community effort. I was so proud of the response of our campus community and especially our Athletics department during the first Pack the Pantry in February. Family Weekend is an ideal time to show how Nevada's College Town comes together to look out for all members of its Pack," said Nevada Athletics Director Stephanie Rempe.

The event coincides with the University's Family Weekend, highlighted by Nevada Football hosting San Diego State Saturday, Oct. 11, at 7:30 p.m. at Mackay Stadium.

"Pack the Pantry is about coming together as a community to support students. When you give, you help uplift the Pack and ensure that students can focus on their education without worrying about their next meal," said Atlas Simpson, ASUN Pack Provisions Student Director.

Donation bins will be placed at the front doors of Legacy Hall and the E.L. Fitness Center from Monday-Friday, Oct. 6-10, and on Saturday, Oct. 11, bins will be located at Jensen Plaza during the pregame tailgate. Wolf Pack fans are encouraged to bring non-expired, unopened food and hygiene products.

Items most needed include: canned meals, canned proteins, peanut butter, rice, pasta, cereal, shelf-stable milk alternatives, shampoo, toothpaste, and feminine hygiene products. Monetary donations can also be made HERE.

Through Pack the Pantry, Nevada Athletics is mobilizing staff, student-athletes and donors to make a meaningful impact. Student-athletes represent a large segment of the campus, and with the incredible support they receive from students and the community at athletic events, this as an opportunity to give back. This initiative strengthens the bond between Nevada Athletics and the campus community, ensuring that no student's academic or athletic journey is hindered by food insecurity.

"Nevada Athletics is committed to supporting our students. With a cause like this, it's all about building awareness and staying consistent," said Collin Bernard, Nevada Athletics Assistant Director of Development.
