ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - New Mexico's Reed Spenrath hit three home runs, including two grand slams, as the Lobos took Friday's series opener, 16-0, from the Wolf Pack.
Spenrath finished the day 3-for-5 with nine RBIs. His first grand slam opened the scoring in the bottom of the third, as New Mexico scored five times off of Nevada starter
Jason Doktorczyk. His second grand slam came in the Lobos'eight-run sixth which broke things wide open, and he added a solo shot in the eighth.
Doktorczyk fell to 5-4 with the loss, being charged with nine runs on 10 hits over 5.1 innings.
Dayne Pengelly struck out 12 and allowed just four hits over seven scoreless innings for the Lobos (26-21, 15-10 MW), evening his record at 4-4.
Nevada (21-24, 13-12 MW) put at runner in scoring position in each of the second and third innings, but came away empty-handed, missing a chance to take an early lead.
The teams return to action Saturday at 1 p.m. PT.
